Welcome! I recommend reading Swami Vivekananda's writings and listening to Swami Sarvapriyananda's lectures on Vedanta. You can get the former's entire writings for like $1-2 on Amazon Kindle. As far as learning about India, I've compiled a list of books on the history and culture of Bharath (India).
